miraDry® is a newer, non-invasive hyperhidrosis treatment. Using microwave technology, miraDry targets and eliminates sweat and odor glands from the armpits. The treatment uses a hand-held device to deliver electromagnetic energy below the skin, targeting sweat glands. The device heats and destroys the underarm sweat glands while cooling and protecting the top layers of skin.
The procedure is relatively painless, but it does require local anesthesia in the form of lidocaine injections. Most people can continue normal activities, return to work right after the procedure, and resume exercise within a couple of days.
How miraDry® Works
After your underarm has been numbed and is ready to be treated, the provider will place the handpiece directly on your skin, lining up with the temporary treatment template applied to your underarm.
Next, the handpiece is activated. You will feel a slight suction as your skin and glands are brought closer to the surface for maximum results.
Finally, miraWave TM energy is delivered and the sweat and odor glands are destroyed. All the while, soothing cooling is applied to protect your skin.
Treatment with miraDry®
miraDry® is performed by your Trillium Creek provider by measuring your armpits and marking the treatment area with a temporary treatment template.
The provider will administer numbing lidocaine shots in both armpits. The number of shots needed varies from person to person, but most people need around 30 shots. The underarms are a sensitive area, and the lidocaine injections can be painful and uncomfortable.
Once your armpits are numbed, the provider will use the hand-held miraDry® device to heat and destroy your sweat glands. The whole process takes about an hour.
The recovery period is short, but it’s smart to give yourself a few days of downtime to relax and heal. Try to avoid scheduling your miraDry® appointment before an important work meeting or big event.
After treatment, you may experience swelling, soreness, tingling, and numbness in the treated area. These sensations typically clear up within a few days to a few weeks.
Results from miraDry®
The miraDry® system uses energy that targets and destroys the sweat and odor glands in your underarm. Once those glands are destroyed they do not grow back—so once they are gone, they are gone for good.
