Botox® is not a filler, but a protein that relaxes underlying muscles. Botox® works by blocking impulses from the nerves to the muscles that create expression lines.
Botox® injections have been used safely and effectively for over 10 years in treating many ophthalmological and neurological disorders, and more recently have been used to treat migraine headaches. Botox® is approved by the FDA as a safe and effective treatment for wrinkles and expression lines, but cannot improve wrinkles due to aging and sun-damaged skin.
A small amount of Botox® is precisely injected into specific locations in the face, neck and/or lips through a tiny needle. The pain is minimal, and only a small amount of Botox® is required. You can resume normal activities immediately, but the muscle must be used actively in the first 2 hours to maximize the effect. Temporary bruising is the most common side effect, which can easily be covered with makeup.
Botox® smooths out expression lines, giving your face a more youthful and calm appearance. The effects of Botox® may be visible in 5 to 7 days. Maximum benefits are reached between 10 to 14 days.
After treatment, the skin remains smooth and unwrinkled. The untreated facial muscles contract, as usual, allowing your normal facial expression to be unaffected.
The effects of Botox® usually last 4 to 6 months and then fade gradually. You will need to follow up with treatments 2 to 3 times a year. Clinical studies show longer-lasting effects after receiving multiple treatments over time.
Botox® can be used for excessive sweating of the underarms or feet with the effects of treatments lasting up to 12 months.
Are you one of those people who seem to sweat excessively? Botox® is an option that can be used when sweating has become an issue. Injections are made into the sweat glands found in your armpit. The Botox® then works to block the nerves of the sweat glands and reduces the amount of sweat created. This is a great alternative to dealing with hyperhidrosis (underarm sweat) for the rest of your life.

The smile that shows too much of your gums is usually due to your upper lip lifting higher than normal.
By injecting Botox® into the upper lip, it relaxes the muscles so that they do not contract as high. This will leave your smile showing less of your gums and more of your beautiful teeth!
Is a perfectly lined jaw what you are after? Perhaps you have noticed that your jaw isn’t as defined as you would like it to be.
Because Botox® has a great effect on relaxing muscles, it can be used to create that defined jawline that you want. Botox® is injected into the jaw (masseter muscle).
Botox® helps with grinding of the teeth and jaw pain. Injections into the jaw relax the muscles, which will relieve the jaw pain.
Do you suffer from headaches or continuous migraines? You may not have known that Botox® can be used to treat headaches!
Botox® is injected into the forehead and acts as a relaxer. It reduces the tension kept in those muscles, which can help minimize the headache. If you have found that essential oils, massage, acupuncture, and painkillers have not helped relieve your headaches, Botox® may be another option that is worth a shot! It is not a permanent cure, but will at least last for three months, leaving you headache-free in that time!

This technique is used to make the neck, chin, and “gobbler” area look smoother and younger by injecting Botox® into the platysmal bands. These bands are partly responsible for the downward pull on the lower face. They are also the guilty culprit of the development of the dreaded “turkey neck.”
With approximately 20 units of Botox® needed, you will start to notice results as early as four days after the treatment and full results after the treatment. There is less ‘pulling down’ by the corners of the mouth and chin, in addition to the improvement to the neck and “gobbler” area. The jawline is also more defined.

Botox® for crow’s feet can make a dramatic impact even when you have deep lines. Botox® reduces the visibility of crow’s feet by relaxing the muscles that surround the corners of the eyes. After you have Botox®, you should notice that the skin underneath and around your eyes looks smoother, and the difference should be particularly distinctive when you smile.
A “wrinkly chin” is often the result of an overactive chin muscle (mentalis). You can see this over-activity in most people due to the normal aging process. However, it can also be seen in younger people as well.
The muscle causes dimpling and bumps after years of repetitive movements, the overlying skin becomes wrinkly. The skin’s texture gets worse over time, and thin cross-hatched lines develop, creating a cobblestone chin or orange peel chin.
Fortunately, the mentalis muscle can easily and safely be treated with Botox®. This treatment known as ‘Chin-Tox’ reduces the mentalis muscles over-activity. Two weeks after the treatment, you’ll see improvements in the wrinkling, creasing, and dimpling of the skin.
The best way to treat bunny lines is to use just a bit of Botox® on each side of the nose to smooth these wrinkles. You’ll see results in 10 days, which will continue to improve over the next five days and typically last three to four months. The idea is to weaken the muscles that bunch the skin and cause the bunny lines.
If you have acne on your forehead, Botox® can help. Botox® can reduce oil, sweat, and pores in the forehead are. A few injections to the forehead decrease oil production and calms a shiny T-zone.

Dysport® is an FDA-approved prescription injection that improves the appearance of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows (glabellar lines).
When frowning, the muscles above and between the eyebrows contract and tighten, which can cause unsightly wrinkles. Dysport® temporarily relaxes the facial muscles by blocking the nerve signals that cause the muscles to contract. This gives your skin a smoother, more pleasant appearance, even when you are scowling or frowning dramatically.
Frown lines can form because of the way a person’s face moves. Facial movements such as frowning or squinting can cause unattractive lines to develop. Over time, these repeated movements cause wrinkles to form between the eyebrows, even in younger adults.
Dysport® was approved for cosmetic use in the United States in April 2009 and has been used in other countries since 1991. Dysport® has been steadily gaining in popularity around the world and is now sold for aesthetic use in 36 countries.
Dysport® treatments usually take about 10 to 20 minutes. Prior to your treatment, the cosmetic experts at Trillium Creek Dermatology skin will determine the exact placement of each injection to ensure the best results. Dysport® blocks nerve signals to muscles in the treatment area. This temporarily stops the contraction of the muscles that cause frown lines.
The treated areas will remain smooth and unwrinkled, giving you a more youthful appearance. Your untreated facial muscles will still contract normally, allowing you to show facial expressions, such as smiling.
There is little to no downtime after your Dysport® treatment, so you can go about your daily activities as usual.
For the best results, you should discuss a treatment schedule with the cosmetic experts at Trillium Creek Dermatology to maintain your new appearance.
