IPL Overview

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) uses high-intensity pulses of visible light to rejuvenate the skin. Although it is not an actual laser, IPL works in much the same way as lasers in that light energy is absorbed into particular cells in the skin. The light energy is converted to heat energy, which affects the target cells to achieve the desired results. IPL differs from laser treatment in that it causes minimal damage to the upper layer of skin.

IPL can improve the appearance of the skin by removing broken facial veins, rosy cheeks, thread veins of the legs, mild acne, freckles, age marks, facial lines, and wrinkles. IPL treats the entire surface, giving you an overall revitalized and youthful appearance. This procedure of rejuvenating aged skin with light is referred to as photorejuvenation.

IPL is used to treat the following:

  • Vascular Lesions including: Spider Veins, Broken Facial Veins, and Rosy Cheeks
  • Acne
  • Large Pores
  • Age Spots / Brown Spots, and Freckles
  • Melasma
  • Facial Lines / Wrinkles

Treatment with IPL

A Trillium Creek Dermatology cosmetic expert begins by placing the smooth, glass surface of the IPL treatment head directly onto to the skin, delivering precisely controlled pulses of light to the treatment area. The process is continued until the entire treatment area has been covered. The sensation has been likened to a light snap of a rubber band. To make the procedure as comfortable as possible, Trillium Creek utilizes the latest IPL technology, which contains an integrated cooling system within the IPL device.

IPL is a non-invasive treatment and takes only 15-30 minutes. It is administered in a series of 1-4 treatments 2-3 weeks apart providing gradual, natural improvement with excellent long-term results. You should avoid sun exposure in the days and weeks before and after treatment.

Results from IPL

After one or two treatments you should see results depending upon the complaint, however, some problems may take several treatments to achieve desired results. Your Trillium Creek Dermatology cosmetic expert can estimate about how many treatments will be required.
