Common Skin Issues with COVID-19

Maskne

Maskne is acne caused or worsened while wearing a mask. Masks can wreak havoc on our face, especially if worn for a prolonged period of time. This is due to the occlusion of the pores, as well as external inflammation caused by the mask rubbing along the chin and jawline. During COVID-19, you may be seeing an increase/flare in your acne during this time, or it may be completely new.

We have prescription, topical, and oral medications to treat this, as well as associates in our H&H Science boutique that can tailor a skin car regimen specifically for your needs.

Moisturizers

Facial Cleansers

Another common skin disease we’ve seen more is Eczema – especially Dyshidrotic Eczema. This is seen usually by those who perform a lot of wet work (i.e., dishwashers, or maybe a new baby in the time with frequent diaper changes using wipes, and healthcare workers).

There are some tips that can help combat ‘maskne:’

  1. Using dye-free and fragrance-free lotions such as Cera-Ve Cream
  2. Using ultra-gentle soaps like Dove for Sensitive Skin or Cetaphil washes

Stress.

Stress can wreak all sorts of havoc on our skin. When a patient is extremely stressed, we’ve seen increases in psoriasis flare ups, as well as other autoimmune diseases and even rosacea. We’d love to get you in to see on of our Skin Care Experts to get you the care you need with the correct diagnosis and customized treatment plan for your exact skin care need.
