The Sciton® laser is utilized for the Erbium Microlaser Peel. The Sciton® laser is a unique combination of two lasers that allow a more precise treatment than previous methods of correcting abnormalities on the surface of the skin. The Sciton® laser provides correction of pigment changes, acne scars, and wrinkling of the skin.

The Sciton® laser precisely removes thin layers of skin which will then be replaced by a new, fresh layer. Wrinkles are softened and become less noticeable, and some are removed completely. Pigmented lesions are greatly improved and many are erased completely. Previous scars can be blended in with the surrounding skin to make them much less noticeable.

The most popular area of treatment is the face and neck. However, any area of the body can be treated, including the chest, hands, back, shoulders and legs.

Erbium can be used to improve the following:

  • Acne Scars
  • Age Spots/Brown Spots
  • Anti-Aging
  • Fine Lines/Wrinkles
  • Moderate/Severe Wrinkles
  • Sagging Skin
  • Pre-Cancers
  • Solar Lentigines
  • Actinic Keratosis
  • Hypertrophic Scars
  • Surgical Scars

Does it Hurt?

The amount of discomfort will vary depending on the area and depth to be treated and the patient’s pain tolerance. An anesthetic may be used to minimize discomfort during and after treatment.

Erbium Treatment

First, anesthesia may be administered and the eyes are protected with safety shields. The laser utilizes a computer-controlled device that automatically scans the treatment area. The outer layer of skin is removed to exactly the depth needed to correct your problems. You may hear a light snapping or popping as the laser bean gently removes the outer layer of skin cells. Treatment can take up to an hour depending on the size of the area to be treated. Erythema, edema, and a sunburn sensation may be noticed in the treatment area for up to twelve hours after treatment. This is a purely ablative procedure. Swelling should be present only as a short-term response. Often tissue will peel or flake as a result of the ablation. Peeling or flaking usually occurs after 24 -48 hours.

Special skin care products and instructions for their use will be given following treatment. This will minimize the risk of infection and promote rapid healing. Mineral makeup can be used within one week after treatment. Your skin will also be sensitive to sunlight. Protective clothing and sunscreen are a must.

Within weeks, your treated skin will feel smoother, fine wrinkles and pores will be less noticeable, and sun spots or uneven pigmentation will fade. Results depend on your condition, the number of treatments, and the area treated.
