Francine Johns, PA-C

Hello and welcome to this week’s Trillium Creek Dermatology and Surgery Center’s Podcast. My name is Francine Johns, and I’ve been a physician assistant with Trillium Creek for 19 years.

March is not only a great time to get your body back into shape, but also your skin; just in time for Spring Break! So, as you head off to wherever you may be this Spring Break Season, here are my favorite Top 5 Tips and Tricks to make our skin look it’s very best!

Pro Tip #1:

First and foremost, SPF DAILY! This is a non – negotiable topic that I tell patients every visit. I suggest at least a SPF 50 or higher. When trying to decide which sunblock is best for you, look for a sunblock that reads “Micronized Zinc”, which is a physical block. This is better for your skin and the environment than chemical based sunscreens.

Now, I know it can be hard when you’re out having fun on spring break to remember to apply sunscreen every 2 hours, but any skin that is exposed to the sun needs to be protected. A hat with a brim and sunglasses are also very important; although it is rare, we can get skin cancer in the back of our eyes. Make sure your sunglasses have 100% UV protection.

Pro Tip #2:

Besides applying a SPF daily, the second most important thing you can do to keep your skin healthy is to keep it hydrated. CeraVe is my absolute favorite body cream and can be found at any local store. Moisturizing daily not only helps keep skin smooth, but helps fight wrinkles, and allows skin to stay youthful looking. H&H Science Boutique inside of Trillium Creek Dermatology & Surgery Center has its signature Age Defying Body Lotion and Ultra Smooth Body Lotion which are my other two favorite moisturizers that have added benefits, focusing on helping tone the skin, and smoothing out sun damaged areas.

Pro Tip #3:

Washing your face every night helps keep your skin healthy by removing dirt and debris that has collected on your face throughout the day. It also prepares your skin to be able to absorb your bedtime regimen products. In my opinion, the H&H Gentle Cleanser is the best, especially those with sensitive skin. You can pick this up at any of our H&H Science locations.

Pro Tip #4:

I know we all want that summer glow, but how can we achieve this without risking our skin to the harmful UV Rays of the sun? In answer to that question, it’s as simple as using a nice bronzer, self-tanner, or the H&H Science Tinted Brightening BB cream SPF 50+.This product is a two for one deal that not only acts as a foundation, but has the added benefit of SPF in it! And if you’re in the market for a self-tanner, H&H Science has their new product-Liquid Luminosity, which is fabulous and a must have this summer!

Pro Tip #5:

Lastly, I highly recommend chemical skin peels for more radiant, and youthful looking skin. Benefits to a chemical peel can help to improve skin tone and texture and reduces the effects of sun damage. You can schedule an appointment with one of our Cosmetic Nurses for a professional level skin peel personalized to your skin type. Or, try out the H&H Science Clear Skin Peel Kit for an at-home treatment to help remove dead and dull skin to make your skin shine bright this spring!
