OVERVIEW
Sclerotherapy is a simple procedure whereby a sclerosing agent is injected into your spider veins using a series of micro-injections. The solution causes the veins to collapse and fade from view. The faded veins become scar tissue that are eventually absorbed by your body.

TREATMENT
A typical sclerotherapy treatment lasts for 15–45 minutes and does not require anesthesia due to the small size of the needles that are used. Approximately one injection is administered for every inch of spider vein. As the procedure continues, you will feel small needle sticks and possibly a mild burning sensation which most patients find tolerable.

Immediately after treatment most patients experience mild bruising or discoloration that can last a week or two. Your Trillium Creek Medical Professional will usually recommend that you wear support hose for approximately one week following treatment. Walking and moderate exercise also aid in recovery.

RESULTS
Sclerotherapy is highly effective with most patients experiencing significant, long-lasting reduction in the visibility of their spider veins. However, sclerotherapy can only treat existing spider veins, and does not prevent new ones from developing.

Generally two or more treatments are recommended depending on the scope and severity of your condition. The same area should not be retreated for four to six weeks to allow for complete healing, although other areas may undergo treatment during this time.
