Rosacea

When red pimples and bumps begin to erupt on the nose and the middle of the cheeks in your 20s, you most probably have rosacea not acne.

Overview
Rosacea is an inflammation of the middle of the face that causes symptoms similar to acne. There are pimples, pustules and cysts, but there are no blackheads or whiteheads. This is what differentiates rosacea from acne.

Flushing is a very common characteristic of rosacea sufferers. Certain foods, heat, alcohol and exercise can aggravate and bring on rosacea.

Rosacea is an inflammation that affects the middle of the face with symptoms similar to acne.

Treatment
While there are many prescription treatments used to control rosacea, there is no known cure. Prescription antibiotics used to control the inflammation include Oracea, Doryx and Solodyne.

A common topical treatment for acne rosacea is Metrogel, but sulfur based products, like the Trillium Creek Sulfur Treatment Masque are also commonly used. The flushing and blushing of rosacea causes breakage of small blood vessels, which leads to a very ruddy face and can make the nose swell.

The Dermatology Medical Professionals at Trillium Creek use the latest techniques, such as Intense Pulsed Light (IPL), to erase the blood vessels in rosacea. There are many treatments that can be used but not all are effective in clearing the facial veins.

Makeup and skin care is extremely important in treating rosacea. Patients with rosacea have very sensitive skin so toners, alcohol based products and scrubs are not recommended. These products will flare your sensitive skin and the rosacea. Ingredients like green tea, copper and benzoyl peroxide can be used safely instead.

Trillium Creek Skin Typing
To make sure you are using the right products for your rosacea, we recommend that you have your skin typed by a Trillium Creek specialist. This will ensure that you use the best products for your sensitive skin.
